Safety and Compliance

Principle is a member of the British Safety Industry Federation

Safety and compliance are at the forefront of everything we do.

Our dedicated in-house Safety and Compliance Department oversees not only safety measures but training across the entire business. This commitment is underpinned by our PCS Safety Management System (SMS), certified to ISO 45001 standards, and our SafeContractor accreditation.

We are also proud members of RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents),  recently earning a RoSPA Silver Award for our safety performance, and the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF).

Comprehensive Training Programmes

We believe that in-depth training is key to maintaining high safety standards. All training programmes use a blend of in-person sessions and e-learning platform modules, supplemented by bespoke in-house courses.

Following certification from BICSc (British Institute of Cleaning Science), we are an Accredited Training Member and our in-house training team is able to deliver a number of courses to ensure our staff have the knowledge and experience to work safely and effectively. The training we provide includes:

  • COSHH Chemical Safety Awareness
  • BICSc CPSS/ Train the Trainer/ Assessor
  • Human Focus – Health & Safety training
  • Manual handling training
  • First Aid training
  • IOSH/ NEBOSH
  • Managers Working at Height Awareness
  • Accident Investigation
  • Driving for Work

Our operatives are trained to BICSc Lesson to Practice Level 1 by our in-house BICSc assessors. Managers and employees also benefit from tailored training, including IOSH Managing Safely courses, NEBOSH General Certificate courses, and first aid training.

Additionally, we provide conflict management training through an approved external provider. This initiative focuses on the well-being of operatives traveling during unsocial or quiet hours.

Proactive Safety Audits and Risk Assessments

To ensure compliance and continuous improvement, we conduct an annual internal audit program across all business divisions. Regular observational operational safety audits further reinforce this commitment. Dedicated Safety Advisors are assigned to specific divisions, such as public realm contracts and window cleaning, to review working practices and produce site, task and equipment-specific risk assessments and training modules.

Specialised Safety Measures

For our window cleaning division, we have a dedicated Safety & Compliance Manager and Safety Advisor. Our in-house abseiling team is affiliated with IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association), SAEMA (Specialist Access Engineering and Maintenance Association), and the Federation of Window Cleaners Safety Assessment Scheme (SAM). All operatives working at height undergo safety-critical health assessments every three years to ensure their readiness and well-being.

Safety isn’t just a policy...

Safety is a culture that defines how we operate at every level.

We prioritise the safety of our employees, customers, and members of the public, ensuring that every task is carried out with the highest standards of care and compliance. From rigorous training programmes to proactive safety audits and specialist risk assessments, we are committed to creating a safe environment for everyone impacted by our services.
