Principle’s green team was back in force yesterday to help Groundwork – a federation of charities that mobilises action on poverty and the environment by making communities greener, safer and healthier –  with their latest project.

Despite the weather threatening to dampen the plan, 15 Principle team members joined Groundwork to continue the transformation of a disused space within the long-neglected Gravel Pit Burial Grounds, Hackney into a community allotment garden. As a result of the area being subject to anti-social behaviour previously and the neglected site being of significant size a considerable amount of work is needed.

Once the project – currently in phase one – is completed the garden will offer benefits to the community in abundance. It’ll be a space for members, their friends and families to grow vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers, where proactive outreach can engage minority groups, provide a relaxing outside green space for members of the community, be a safe environment for wildlife, plus more!

Yesterday entailed moving the railway sleepers into place, building new raised beds, painting and treating woodwork, bulb planting, making furniture and more!

It’s safe to say that the team rightfully feel very pleased with the progress that was made. Well done to you all and thank you for demonstrating Principle’s commitment to giving back!
